PSU-LV professor to present ‘Achieving Calm Through Creative Expression’

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (October 3, 2017) – City Lights is coming to Bethlehem. The Penn State Alumni Association will host its first-ever City Lights event in the fall at the Banana Factory Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 14. With the Penn State football team on its bye week, come spend a Saturday learning about how to use art to help manage stress.

Elizabeth R. Flaherty, instructor in art history at Penn State Lehigh Valley, will give a presentation titled “Achieving Calm Through Creative Expression,” which will guide participants through the process of art-making and its restorative healing powers that are, quite literally, at your fingertips. Afterwards, Emily Bixler ’14 will lead the audience through a Penn State-themed Paint Nite® event where all guests will get to create their own masterpiece.

Prior to the presentation and Paint Nite event, the Alumni Association will host a brunch buffet. City Lights offers an opportunity to experience Penn State through inspiring performances, engaging cultural events and enlightening educational programs hosted in metro areas where many Penn Staters live and work. City Lights events include an alumni reception or meal.

The event costs $40 for Penn State Alumni Association members, $55 for non-members, and $30 for students 18 and under.

City Lights is presented by the Penn State Alumni Association with support from Penn State Health—Official Healthcare System Sponsor.
